How to Keep Skincare and Makeup Out of Your Hair

A strand of hair in your cleanser, moisturiser along your fringe or foundation caught in the pieces around your face: sometimes the smallest part of getting ready is the most annoying. Holding your hair out of the way before you start makes the whole routine easier.

A soft headband and a few no-crease clips can work together here. Use the headband to gather the hair around your face, then clips to catch the shorter pieces or hold a fringe exactly where you want it.

Set your hair up before opening your skincare

Take a moment to move your hair away from your face while your hands are still clean. If it is long, gather the lengths loosely. Then position a Bompies skincare headband so you can comfortably reach your forehead and the sides of your face.

Tuck away loose strands without pulling the headband too tightly. The goal is simply to stop hair falling forward when you bend over the basin or apply your products.

Use the headband through cleansing and skincare

A headband is useful during the parts of a routine where you want the whole hairline held back. Keep it positioned while you cleanse, apply a mask or work through your usual skincare steps.

Check the edge as you go. You still want to clean your skin near the hairline, so avoid placing the band so far forward that it covers the area you are trying to reach. If it picks up cleanser or a face mask, wash it according to the care instructions before putting it away.

The Bompies cream headband has an adjustable fastening, making it easy to open and reposition without dragging it over the rest of your hair.

Catch shorter pieces with no-crease clips

A headband may gather most of your hair while a short fringe or face-framing pieces still need their own hold. Use a no-crease clip on each section that keeps falling forward.

The Bompies four-pack includes two black and two pink clips. Place them so the sections are held comfortably away from the area where you are working. If you are doing one side of your makeup first, you can adjust the clips as you move to the other side.

Adjust the accessories for makeup

Once you have finished skincare, decide how much of your hair you still want held back. You can keep the headband on, use clips alone or keep both in place. There is no need to use the same setup for cleansing and for every stage of makeup.

When applying products near the forehead, keep an eye on the hairline rather than sweeping makeup into the roots. Work in smaller sections if a fringe makes the area awkward to reach.

If you get product on your fingers, clean them before touching the lengths or rearranging your fringe. That small pause helps avoid transferring it straight from your hands into your hair.

Release your hair after the final step

Open the headband fastening and remove the clips gently. Check for any loose hair caught in the closures, then arrange your fringe and front sections. Keeping the accessories in until you have finished avoids repeatedly pushing your hair back with hands that have skincare or makeup on them.

Keep a small getting-ready kit

  • A clean headband beside your skincare for cleansing and masks.
  • A few no-crease clips in your makeup bag for the sections around your face.
  • A comfortable hair tie for loosely gathering longer lengths when needed.

The Bompies headband can be hand washed in cold water or machine washed on a gentle cycle, then air dried. Follow the individual care instructions for your clips and other accessories too.
